Screening tests are a particular subset of psychometric tests used in screening. Tests such as the Psychological Screening Inventory and the General Health Questionnaire for example can be used in psychiatric evaluation of populations helping to identify those suffering from depression for further investigation.

Tests used in screening tend to be quick and easy to administer. They can be administered to a wide range of age groups and educational levels, have easy instructions and can often be administered to groups of people. They often rely self report.
