Paranormal psychology refers to the partly-pseudoscientific study of how people's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by any claimed phenomenal experience that may usually be classified as paranormal. It is separate from parapsychology in that paranormal psychology simply seeks to observe the behavior and mental processes of those who claim experiences with the general paranormal while parapsychology seeks to prove the existence of specific paranormalities, particularly psychic abilities and life after death, through the scientific method.

A typical situation that would require the usage of paranormal psychology would be the observation of the behavior of someone who has supposedly experienced an alien abduction. Rather than encouraging him toward attempting another "encounter" or discouraging him from his sworn assumption of an "encounter", paranormal psychology simply observes and investigates the behavior of the individual both before, during and after such encounters if they happen again.
