Basic human care includes meeting the human needs for eating and drinking, excretion, personal cleansing and dressing, controlling body temperature, mobility, working and playing, expressing sexuality, sleeping and dying.

These functions are often carried out by a nurse but may be carried out by others who are caring for the individual.
