A person's Educational attainment level is an aspect of their educational background and is the completion of a course of study to a standard deserving of a qualification. Types of qualification are rated against a hierarchical structure, the highest achieved being that persons educational attainment level eg bachelor's degree level. In studies it is sometimes used as a demographic variable.
It is a term commonly used by statisticans to refer to the highest degree of education an individual has completed.
The US Census Bureau Glossary defines educational attainment as "the highest level of education completed in terms of the highest degree or the highest level of schooling completed."
