Decompression effects arise as a consequence of the physical stress placed on an organism when exposed to a decrease in pressure around the body. For example decompression sickness may occur in divers after they rise to the surface to quickly after being at depth. Other effects can occur in spaceflight as the gravitational effects of gravity give way to weightlessness.
