In psychology, the contact hypothesis is a way to create harmony among groups that are experiencing conflict. In order for this to occur the following must be present:
- both groups taken into equal status relationship,
- both groups work on problem that they must both be involved in to solve,
- norms and authority support this,
- all members must have close interpersonal contact with each other.
Once this task is complete it is hypothesised that the groups will find cohesion.
