Psychological boundaries are protective mental enclosures constructed through social norms, etiquette, professional rules and explicit social bargaining which sustain the integrity of individuals, dyads and groups. Where boundaries are breached the stability of relationships and identities are threatened and a great deal of psychological work may be needed to restablish equilibrium.
