Book presciption schemes are a systematic approach to providing bibliotherapy, particularly for people with common mental disorders in primary care.

The schemes are set up so that a limited list of approved self-help books and other psychoeducational materials are drawn up by qualified professional that can then be made available on prescription by other workers (eg in the UK Graduate Mental Health Workers and GPs). Such schemes may be complemented by other services such as computerized CBT which are similarly aimed at helping people access structured help quickly.

See List of books for book prescription scheme for ideas as to suitable titles.
